The required supporting documents may vary for the first and second withdrawal. So, it is necessary to submit all required supporting documents to ensure a smooth application process.

Important Reminders

1. Certify Your Documents

Ensure ALL copies of documents have been certified and acknowledged by the authorised persons.

(complete with name, designation and official stamp except for copies of documents which require certification by an EPF officer)

2. Double Check Your Panel Banks

Refer to the list of EPF panel banks for direct crediting of payment into member’s account

3. Submit to EPF

Send your completed submissions at your nearest EPF Counter or mail it to the EPF.

Member - Education

Frequently Asked Questions

Members are allowed to make a withdrawal anytime as long as there is sufficient balance in their Account 2 (subject to withdrawal terms).

The total tuition fees or the balance in your Account 2, whichever is lower.

Members need to be present at the EPF counter and verify their thumbprint as proof of identity as a member and applicant.

Members are given 14 days to verify their thumbprint, failing which the application will be rejected.

  • Original identification card (MyKad/MyPR/Police ID/Military ID) for member‘s identity verification
     
  • Supporting documents – members' will be notified of any additional documents through i-Akaun Secured Messaging.

Members can perform a thumbprint verification and submit the supporting documents at any EPF offices.

The forms and documents that need to be submitted by members during the submission of application at the counter are as per existing conditions:

Members can apply for this withdrawal at any time, as long as there is a remaining balance on their study loan with the education loan provide and the member still has savings in their Account 2.

No, a lump sum payment is made to the education loan provider for each withdrawal application.

The amount of payment that can be withdrawn is subject to the member’s loan balance and the balance savings in their Account 2, whichever is lower.

The education loan provider will need to reimburse any excess amount withdrawn to the EPF is the loan has already been settled.

Yes, members will need to submit the documents listed in the document checklist, as well as their loan balance statement. Application submissions must be done over the counter only.

Education withdrawals have been expanded as follows:

i.    Withdrawal covers Certificate Level 3:
Withdrawal applications are extended to Certificate Level 3, subject to the list of certifications approved by the EPF; and

ii.    Withdrawal to finance/reduce education loans for spouses and/or parents:
Withdrawal applications are extended to finance tuition fees and/or to reduce the education loans of spouses (husband/wife) and parents (biological/adopted/step parents) for Certificate Level 3, Diploma and above.

Certificate Level 3 is the Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) accredited by the Department of Skills Development/Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (DSD/JPK), Ministry of Human Resources for skills programmes offered by public or private Training Providers or ‘Accredited Centers’.

The objectives to expand the Education Withdrawal to include Certificate Level 3 are as follows:

i.    To provide opportunities for more Members/students to further their education;

ii.    To encourage upskilling and reskilling in line with the aspirations of the Industrial Revolution (IR 4.0);
 
iii.    To assist related industries in producing quality workers who will contribute to economic growth and resilience in the future; and

iv.    To enable members, spouses, children, and parents to increase their level of education, thereby allowing them to earn a higher income and enjoy a better standard of living while increasing their retirement savings in the EPF.
 

Currently, Members are only eligible to apply for this withdrawal for Certificate Level 3 courses/programmes offered by Accredited Centres (Pusat Bertauliah/PB) and Training Providers that are accredited by the Department of Skills Development (JPK) only.

The application can be made via:

(a)    Online application through i-Akaun (Member)
For Members/students who receive educational funding from the Skills Development Fund Corporation (PTPK); 

(b)    Manual application
For Members/students who do not receive funding or receive funding from organisations other than PTPK, they must submit their application at an EPF Office by completing the 9H Application Form (AHL) along with supporting documents.

The main requirements to be eligible to apply for an Education Withdrawal are as follows:

i.    Malaysian Citizen or Permanent Resident (PR);

ii.    Below age 55;

iii.    Have savings in EPF Account 2;

iv.    Have education funding with PTPK.

To ensure online applications can be submitted, Members/students must:

i.    Register and activate Member's i-Akaun at any EPF kiosk;

ii.    Register/update mobile phone number to receive the Transaction Authorisation Code (TAC) number at any EPF Office/kiosk

Applications through i-Akaun (Member) can be made as follows:

i.    Log in to i-Akaun, select the Withdrawal Tab, click e-Pengeluaran and click New Application.
ii.    Select ‘Education’ Withdrawal Type to start the transaction and then select ‘Certificate Level 3’ at Level of Study/Course. 

 

 

Members are required to submit the supporting documents under certain circumstances by uploading them on i-Akaun (Member) before submitting the application.

The types of supporting documents that can be uploaded are as follows:

i.    Proof of Relationship

ii.    Payment receipt

iii.    Other supporting documents as required

Note:

The function to upload supporting documents in i-Akaun (Member) is applicable for applications for Certificate Level 3 courses/programmes only.

Members are required to upload supporting documents at Step 3 of the Withdrawal Summary.

The formats allowed for uploaded documents are as follows:

(a)    .jpg, .jpeg or PDF format; and

(b)    The maximum size of each document cannot exceed 256KB

Note:

Members are advised to refer to the guidelines provided to reduce the size of the document if it exceeds the maximum size limit of 256KB.

The education costs eligible for withdrawal under Certificate Level 3 are tuition fees only.

The withdrawal amount allowed is the total tuition fees (academic year) or the balance of the education loan subject to savings in Account 2 (whichever is lower).
For a joint withdrawal application, the amount of withdrawal allowed must not exceed the total tuition fee.

Yes, Members/students can make reimbursement of tuition fees provided that the receipt date does not exceed one year when the application was made and is subject to the member’s Account 2 balance.

For reimbursements in more than one receipt, the total withdrawal amount is subject to the member’s Account 2 balance.

Payment will be credited to the member’s Savings/Current Bank Account of choice.
 

Members may check their application status via:

i.    i-Akaun (Member):
a.    i-Akaun Inbox
b.    Withdrawal History Menu

ii.    Contacting EPF Contact Management Center (CMC) at 03-8922 6000

Members will be notified via SMS on the withdrawal payment status if payment is made via direct crediting.

For payment using banker's cheque, members will receive the notice of payment via mail to the member’s address.

Yes, members will be notified with regards to payment made to Accredited Centre via a notice posted to the member's address.

No. Members are only eligible to apply for Education Withdrawal if the offer letter confirms that they have started studying for a Certificate Level 3 only.

Members/students are eligible to apply for Certificate Level 3 Education Withdrawal  if they register on or after 1st January 2020.
