Peninsula Industrial Challenge 2025 – Real-World Industry Competition

Future-ready talents from Peninsula College Shah Alam and Peninsula College Georgetown stepped up in Peninsula Industrial Challenge 2025 (PIC2025), a prestigious competition that places students in real-world industry settings to solve actual business problems. PIC2025 supports Peninsula Advantage core concept which equips students with practical, industry-led learning experiences that enhance their readiness for the workforce.

Real Problems, Real Solutions

Unlike conventional classroom assessments, Peninsula Industrial Challenge requires students to apply their academic knowledge to genuine operational issues. With a strong focus on solving a real-world problem in logistics industry, crafting hands-on solutions, working collaboratively, and pitching ideas effectively, the challenge empowers students to think beyond textbooks and develop proposals that can make a meaningful business impact.

The programme aims to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industrial practice, empowering students to develop critical thinking, data-driven decision-making, and practical problem-solving capabilities. As they progress through the challenge, students gain invaluable exposure to logistics operations across sectors such as automotive, food and beverage, global distribution centre and electrical & electronics. The programme is built around key industry-critical tools and practices which included Lean Methodologies – such as Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) tools to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance quality and efficiency. There is also significantly more industrial exposure to latest technology such as put to light, pick to light, handheld & RF scanner, WMS and MHE telematics, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with digital tools used in modern and sustainable logistics hubs.

Through this programme, students are not only evaluated on their technical proficiency but also trained by managers and executives from PKT Logistics Group, the parent company of Peninsula College Malaysia to become effective communicators, agile team players, and innovative thinkers — essential attributes for thriving in the dynamic world of supply chain and logistics.

Dato Seri (Dr) Michael Tio, Group Chief Executive & Managing Director, PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd and Managing Director, Peninsula Higher Education Sdn Bhd stated

“Today’s event has been truly outstanding—we’re witnessing an authentic industrial challenge environment that prepares students for the real demands of the logistics sector”

Richard Ian Tanakinjal

“Winning the Peninsula Industrial Challenge 2025 has been an incredible journey. At the start, I barely knew my teammates and struggled to express my ideas—but through continuous mentorship, industry seminars, and hands-on exposure, we grew tremendously as a team. This challenge pushed our limits in a real-world setting and emerging as champion was truly rewarding. I believe this initiative should continue, as it brings immense value to all participants, regardless of the outcome. It has shaped my professional growth in ways I never expected”

A Journey of Innovation

The semi-final stage was held at The Lighthouse Campus in Shah Alam, where nine participating teams presented their initial proposals to a panel of judges. After a competitive round of pitching and deliberation, four standout teams — ByteHaulers, Gan-BA Logistics, UNSO Force, and Kaizen Warrior — secured their place in the grand finale.

The finale round took place at The Ship Campus in Penang. The finalist teams were challenged to further refine their deliverables with guidance from PKT Executives. Their proposals tackled various real-life issues, including warehouse efficiency, ESG practices, automation, ergonomics, and cost-effectiveness.

Shaping Industry-Ready Graduates

Throughout the competition, students demonstrated strong analytical skills, innovative thinking, and professionalism—traits that Peninsula College strives to instil through its Campus-in-Industry model. The challenge also helped participants develop essential soft skills such as teamwork, leadership, and strategic communication.

In line with Peninsula College’s commitment to career readiness, the competition served as a practical platform for students to understand the expectations of the logistics and business sectors while showcasing their potential to future employers.

Celebrating Excellence

As the curtain closed on this year’s challenge, the finalist’s team leaders were recognised for their exceptional performance. Each team leader are now eligible to be considered for the highly coveted Chief Operating Officer (COO) Protégé Programme—a fast-track leadership development initiative under PKT Logistics Group designed to nurture future business leaders.
