THE Star Education Fund scholarships for 2024 are now open for application.
In this year’s edition, a total of 192 scholarships worth RM12.4mil from 26 institutions are available for students seeking financial aid to further their studies at the tertiary level.
All scholarships are bond-free, said the Star Education Fund committee.
“There are more than 480 courses across a broad range of fields and disciplines, from entry-level to postgraduate and professional studies, available for application,” it told StarEdu.
It added that to stand a higher chance of being shortlisted for interviews, applicants may submit up to a maximum of five applications if the courses they choose to apply for are also offered by other universities.
“Select the courses that you wish to apply for based on your highest academic qualification to avoid rejection.
“Write a well-crafted personal statement and explain the reasons why you need the scholarship and why you deserve it,” it advised.
It also stressed that all applications must be submitted at https://www.thestar.com.my/edufund.
“Please read through the ‘Guide’ on the website to understand the application process before applying.
“Applications should be submitted with the actual final examination results.
“Do not wait until the final hour to submit your application,” it said.
The closing date for applications will be two weeks after the release of the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination results.
The Star Education Fund is running for the 31st consecutive year.
The types of courses offered include pre-university programmes such as A-Level, Australian Matriculation and foundation courses, which lead to degrees.
Diploma, degree and master’s programmes, as well as professional certifications such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), are also available.
Since its inception in 1994, the Star Education Fund has benefited 4,439 scholarship recipients with a value of over RM164.3mil.
Star Media Group (SMG) outgoing chief executive officer Alex Yeow, who officiated the soft launch of the Star Education Fund Scholarship Awards 2024 on Feb 28, said the strong relationships SMG has built with many of its partners-in-education have been invaluable.
“We always believe in the power of collaboration with like-minded partners in making these awards more meaningful,” he said.
