Peninsula College is overseen by a distinguished Board of Governors which comprises a group of passionate individuals who are enthusiastic about providing the best education with the best interests of our students in mind. They are responsible for providing strategic planning, developing and fostering linkages with the community and relevant industries, both on a local and global platform. The Board of Governors also ensures the implementation of the college’s constitution and we are very fortunate to have such a highly committed and professional team.

Professor Ian Robert Pashby graduated from the University of Sheffield (UK) with a bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy and then worked in research and development for Rolls-Royce (aero engines). He joined the Warwick Manufacturing Group at the University of Warwick (UK) as a lecturer, was awarded his PhD for research in the processing of materials and subsequently promoted to Senior Lecturer.

In 2000, he became Professor of Manufacturing Processes at the University of Nottingham (UK).

Professor Pashby moved to the University of Nottingham’s Malaysia Campus in 2007 to become Deputy Head. became Pro-Vice Chancellor and then CEO of the campus in 2008. Returning to the UK in 2013, he became Pro-Vice Chancellor at the University of Hull (UK). He moved back to Malaysia in 2017 to lead the Peninsula Higher Education Group as its Group President and in 2024 became the Advisor.

Dato’ Seri Michael Tio is the Group Chief Executive and Managing Director of PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd., a leading logistics service provider in Malaysia.

Upon taking over the helm in 1996, Michael Tio saw immense potential in Malaysia to become ASEAN’s logistics hub. With this grand vision in mind, he began investing in state-of-the-art facilities, skills training, as well as fostered close ties between the industry, government and communities through various CSR programmes.

Michael Tio believes that if doctors can be taught in a hospital environment, so can logisticians be nurtured in a logistics hub. Hence, Peninsula College was born to build up the nation’s talent pool via its unique campus-in-industry model, notably The Lighthouse Campus in Shah Alam, City Campus in Klang and the newly opened The Ship Campus in Batu Kawan Industrial Park.

His passion in professionalising the logistics industry is widely recognised by the academic world where he received honorary Doctorate in Logistics Management from University Utara Malaysia in 2018 and contributes his expertise as Adjunct Professor at UUM, UMK, USM and UPSI. Till today, PKT Logistics is actively collaborating with public institutions, with the recent appointment as Collaborative Professor for Osaka University. As part of his company CSR efforts, Tio has also setup Yayasan PKT to support deserving students in their tertiary education.

Nearly 30 years of trailblazing entrepreneurship has earned him the prestigious SOBA Entrepreneur of the Year 2012, Sin Chew Business Excellence of the Year 2014 and many awards including most recently 2019 CEO of the Year by MoHE.

His achievements are a testament to his philosophy: Dream of it, Talk about it, Plan for it, Work on it and Get it!

Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam Bin Abdullah

Datuk Ruben Emir Gnanalingam attended Victoria Institution and Eton College in the UK before graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Degree in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, the UK, in 1998. He also holds a diploma in Port Management, awarded by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate. Datuk Ruben has also attended various Executive Education Programmes under the Harvard Business School, including the Senior Manager Development Programme and the Programme for Leadership Development.

Datuk Ruben started his career as a trainee in WMSB before leaving to set up a start-up incubator known as The Makmal Group. He then re-joined the Company and was later appointed as Chief Executive Officer in 2009, and he became the Group Managing Director of Westports Holdings Bhd in 2018.

He is also on the Board of Bintang Capital Partners Berhad, Malaysian Productivity Corporation and Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

Outside his professional engagements, Datuk Ruben has involvement in other business and industry-related groups. He is the Deputy President of Kuala Lumpur Business Club Malaysia and a Member of the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC). From a charitable perspective, he is the Chairman of the QPR Community Trust, on the Westports Foundation and CEO Action Network.

Professor Dr. Quamrul Hasan

Professor Dr. Quamrul Hasan has a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Kyoto University, Japan (1992). Before joining Osaka University in 2018 as a full professor, where he is currently working, Professor Hasan served at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) as a full professor from 2014.

Previously, he was a visiting research scholar at the Department of Food, Nutrition & Exercise Science-Florida State University (2009-2014).

Before that, he was a Professor at Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (JAIST), a national postgraduate research university, in Ishikawa, Japan (1997-2005). He also worked for Procter & Gamble Company, as an R&D Scientist and Manager (1994-2001). Professor Hasan established Bioinnovare Company Limited, for international business development in 2009, and a non-profit organization –Japan Halal Research Institute (JAHARI) in Kobe, Japan in 2014 and became the organization’s founder and Chairman. A Japanese national, he has been living in Kobe, Japan with his family since 1994.

Some of the key achievements of Professor Hasan are:
  1. Professional biotechnologist with more than thirty years of experience in both academia and industry in Japan and the USA
  2. Extensively experienced in both Western and Japanese academic and business settings
  3. Innovated a health-care consumer product, from original idea and laboratory test to prototyping and successful field-testing (Febreze- Allergen Reducer/House Dust Clear has been globally marketed by Procter & Gamble since 2004)
  4. Received “Kyoto Shimbun” (a local newspaper in Kyoto, Japan) Award
  5. Published more than 50 journal articles, book chapters, and patents
  6. Chaired/Moderated more than 20 international conference sessions, symposiums, and seminars
  7. Received Procter & Gamble Innovation Award.

Dato’ Sr Norlida Binti Abd. Razak

Dato’ Norlida binti Abd Razak holds a diploma and bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Diploma in Education and Master of Education (Technical).

She dedicated more than thirty years of her working career as a lecturer, head of department and directors of several higher educational institution in the technical and vocational discipline. She had been appointed as the director for five various institutions including community colleges and polytechnics.

She helped lay the foundation for POLISAS to evolve in becoming a training centre for “Food Handler”, “Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport”, and “Halal Training Provider” and thus able to generate a higher income for the institution.

She is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) and now a Consultant Surveyor for Global Survey and Mapping Integrated Sdn Bhd.

Dato’ Norlida has achieved various awards such as Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang; and Laurette Brooch from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Thailand.

Chief Executive of Peninsula College Georgetown

As Chief Executive, Ts Tung Chee Kuan steers the strategic direction of Peninsula College Georgetown, The Ship Campus, facing the Penang Straits from the heart of Batu Kawan Industrial Park, Penang.

Graduated with First Class Honours in Engineering (University of Manchester) and MSc in Industrial Education and Technology (Iowa State University), he has dedicated 38 years of unflaggingly loyal service to the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia in which he oversaw planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of large-scale physical facilities, spearheaded development in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) when he directed Polytechnic Banting, and pioneered a sustainable academia-industry collaborative model in his role as the Director of Industry Liaison and Employability.

A staunch believer in life-long learning, he sits at the forefront of launching cutting-edge programmes aligned with the country’s national blueprints, promoting human flourishing and future-proofing Peninsula graduates with industry-driven programmes derived from a keen understanding of employers’ needs and drawn from the aspirations of Industrial Revolution 4.0. His vision of higher education, crystalised over his four decades of experience in higher education management, underpins the ethos and philosophy of the campus, as the tagline illuminates – “Your employability, our priority”.

Beyond his leadership roles, Tung serves as the President of Technological Association Malaysia (TAM) and as appointed assessor for the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT) besides holding the titles of Professional Technologist and ASEAN Engineering Technologist. His vast expertise also led him to speak and share leading insights in key international and regional forums. Having received frequent invitations to sit on various judging panels, his recent community involvement include being the Honorary Judge for the Creative Young Entrepreneur Award, organised by JCI Malaysia and Shortlist Judge for the 2021 Reimagine Education Awards, jointly organised by QS and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Peninsula College under the leadership of Tung, whose immense experience, sharp intellect and dependable pragmatism help lost boats and students find their ways to the shore, while remaining his profoundly modest and empathetic bearing, the college is well-poised to embark on an exciting voyage that is bound to leave a lasting legacy on the Malaysian higher education landscape.

Dr. Edmund Edward forayed into the education industry in the early 1990s and founded ALC College, now known as Peninsula College Shah Alam, with a passion for providing an affordable education pathway to those striving to uplift themselves for a better future.

With over two decades at the helm as Chief Executive, Dr. Edmund Edward has reshaped the institution while adhering to his core mission of moulding achievers in academics, imbued with high moral values, and positioned as employable graduates.

He is an esteemed fellow academic member of the Association of International Accountants, UK, holding a distinguished Professional Accountancy degree. He earned his Master of Business Administration with distinction from the University of the West of Scotland, UK, and was conferred with a Doctor of Business Administration by Asia E University, Malaysia.

His passion for education and producing well-rounded graduates is highly admirable. As a trailblazer, he is among the first to implement the concept of a higher institution focusing primarily on logistics and business majors within the corporate world in Malaysia, through collaboration with the award-winning company PKT Logistics Group Sdn. Bhd.

As a seasoned ‘veteran’ in education, Dr. Edmund remains dedicated to collaborative efforts within his college community. With a steadfast commitment to nurturing youth, he ensures they are empowered to serve and lead, shaping our nation’s future.
