Making charity their business, too (SAMH)

GIVING to charitable institutions help make our community a better place to live. Even helping a small charitable institution in these challenging times is an impactful act of kindness. Students of Peninsula College who took up the 12 weeks’ business project for their final year Diploma in Business Studies last year, earned a profit of RM140,900.81 from their business ventures. Peninsula College, an education arm of PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd had since 2003 encouraged and nurtured the core principle of civic consciousness and giving among its students. PKT Logistics Group Sdn Bhd group chief executive and managing director Datuk Michael B. Y. Tio said with a capital of RM500, students are motivated to run a business venture to gain valuable knowledge, make the business model work and earn profits. On Wednesday, Tio handed RM50,000 to the Selangor and Federal Territory Association for the Mentally Handicapped (SAMH) Klang while RM5,000 was given to Sin Chew Foundation. Tio said the other organisations that benefitted from the profits earned are the National Kidney Foundation, Destiny Starting Point Welfare Association Klang, Pusat Jagaan Orang Tua Sentosa, Happy Home, Yayasan Ozanam, SVP Lourdes Conference Klang and Pusat Jagaan Anbe Sivam. SAMH Klang manager V. Krishnaveni said the financial support changes the lives of people in need every day with even the smallest of donations making a large impact in the community. “We are grateful to the students who use their business acumen to earn profits that are channeled to SAMH. The contribution goes a long way,” she added.
